Established in 2006, the Oscar qualifying event returns to Canaria, Spain May 7-10, 2025; the event promotes creative development in animation, visual effects and new technologies.
The 20th anniversary of the Animayo Festival will take place from May 7 - 10, 2025 at the CICCA in the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain. The animation festival is a qualifying event as designated by Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, with the festival winners of the Grand Jury Award and Best Spanish Short Film receiving preselection consideration for the Academy Awards “Best Animated Short Film” category.
Animayo was born in 2006 in Spain, directed by the Spanish director and producer Damián Perea. The festival is a benchmark in the field of animation with 75% of training content aimed at promoting creative development and audiovisual production.
The event features face-to-face and online formats in animation, visual effects, virtual reality, video games and new audiovisual technologies. From Gran Canaria (Spain), it extends its programming to other cities and countries, in its "Animayo Itinerante" version, developed in Los Angeles, Madrid, Barcelona, Lanzarote, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Brussels, Chicago, Mumbai, Prague, Colombia, Belgrade or Korea.
