Sub-contract work for feature length 2D animation work

By T Angler | Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at 8:47pm

I have written a 120-130-page feature-length fantasy-based screenplay (in the veins of The Lord of the Rings, Gladiator, Braveheart) and have engaged a concept artist to design 2D character concepts of characters based on my screenplay.

I am now in the process of sourcing for a 2D animation studio who is capable enough to realize my story and screenplay into a feature-length 2D animated film - with voiceover, music, etc.. I would like to come on-board as the contracting producer, screenwriter, co-director and co-storyboard artist.

Why is it so hard to pitch a successful Cartoon Series (any tips) (opinionated tips are also accepted)

By Padlock | Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at 11:11am

i'm currently in my 3rd year of university, i'm studying multimedia. but i'm more into the animation side. i don't really want to be an animator for other people, i'm more interested in pursuing my goal which is to create an animation series that can bring to life a new world, into the minds of others. my favorite world would have to be avatar the last air-bender, the characters are as complex as the creators were permitted to make them, their struggles where relatable, and their fuck ups were present, but what interested me the most was the world they struggled in.

This is Game Graphics Outsourcing Studio "design level".

2D animated tv series price range per episode?

By Elle | Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 10:39pm

Hi all,

I'm new here and need your help.

My friends and I would like to setup a 2D animation TV series intended for 6 - 12 year olds and we need to provide the investors with figures. We basically know how much it will cost us to make the series but problem is we have no clue what is the price range per episode for a TV series in the international market. Would someone be able to provide an estimation of what the amount would be per episode?

We intend to make 26 episodes with 20-22 minutes per episode.

Working with a partner challenges

By Level 3 | Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 7:57am

Hello everyone

Good morning/evening,

There is a challenge that I have been facing recently regarding animation business.

For me, I have been interested in animation since childhood and I have always dreamt about making animation and short films on my own. I've been working on that dream since then. For like, almost 20 years or so.

Getting into an animation job and not giving up!

Hello there, I was very relieved to stumble upon this forum which I now wish to frequent,

A little background: I'm an illustration graduate with some animation experience, my strongest points being storyboard work and character design and development according to my tutors, and they thought that my visual storytelling skills were also strong. I came out with a first in 2015...and to stay in the town I decided to rent in, like a lot of graduates I know, I have ended up in a retail job to keep the roof over my head.

Comedy Project seeks Illustrator / Animator

By Adam | Sunday, April 29, 2018 at 10:18am

I'm a comedy producer based in LA working on a web series, an episodic animation; which comedically follows several LA City types. The idea is for me to shoot photo real environments, and for the illustrator / animator to draw in and animate the characters. Attached is a reference for the animation style; moving pictures more than 30 fps animations. I'm willing to do a 50/50 split for all revenue generated from the project.

Animator looking to go Freelance - Any advice? (UK based, but any advise welcome!)

By Oz Durose | Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at 2:41am

Hey Guys, So after about 8 years of being in the animation industry, I am now considering going freelance,

My question is for those animators who are freelancing at the moment:

  1. How competitive is the market?
  2. How regularly do you find yourself without work?
  3. What ratio of work-from-home and in-studio work do you tend to get?
  4. Where is the best place to look for freelance work, or the best place to advertise your skills?
  5. What are the current day rates for freelance animators?

As mentioned, any help would be appreciated!

I would like to restart my animation career - which field is the most profitable?

By blackcat | Friday, April 20, 2018 at 5:20am

Greetings!

I'll try to keep it short - F/36/illustrator and graphic designer

I was interested in animation since kindergarten. Although I was studying PR, I was drawing all the time, and even had a job as an traditional animator in one company during the college.

There I learned a lot about hand drawn animation on paper, and my team produced satyrical cartoon on daily basis. I'm very grateful for that experience, but life moved me away from it, and in the meantime I worked in other areas, mostly 'static' illustration and graphic jobs.

College wants 15% of any possible profits that its' animation students might earn from their cartoons! PLEASE ADVISE!!

By Michael | Thursday, April 19, 2018 at 10:48pm

Miami-Dade College's animation department (known as MAGIC) wants to do what no other animation school in the US, Canada and western Europe has ever done. Any student who wishes to enter the internship/mentorship program known as the "pitch program" must first sign a contract. The contract allows the school to collect 15% of the GROSS profit (in PERPETUITY!) should a students idea be produced.

On Pitching in Europe

By Kainorian | Thursday, April 5, 2018 at 12:14am

I've recently discovered this great website and went through some of the threads in this forum. Currently, I'm entertaining the idea of developing ideas for animated shows myself and pitching them to networks. I've already come across several websites and other sources (books, videos etc.) on the topic which answer most of my questions, except for one. This question would be:

How / Where do I pitch in Europe?

Help getting back into animation

By Violeta | Friday, March 9, 2018 at 9:38am

Hi,

I worked with Flash for over 10 years. After the birth of my 3rd daughter and a 7 year hiatus, I am eager to get back to it but I’m not sure where to start.

I used to work in studios, now I want to be a freelancer and work in small projects. Because I am self taught and only worked in studios, I am limited to animation only  I don’t know much about pre and post production

Any advice on how to get back? I wouldn’t mind taking courses or studying online.

Any advice is welcome!

thanks in advance!

Question about Pitch Submissions for Animated Series

By Oz Durose | Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at 7:14am

Hey guys,

Over the past few months I have been developing an idea for a childrens animated TV series. I have designed the characters, designed a Pitch Bible and written a pilot script.

The problem I now face: I don't have a clue who to send it to!

The idea is an animated series for 6-12 year olds, an Action Adventure in a fantasy setting.

I'm based in the UK, and hoping to get this out to any producers or execs as I can.
