Fee Structure Question for Start-up Studios

By Snugsters | Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 11:17am

Hi all, I am an animator in the Toronto area, and I have just started a small animation studio. At the studio we hire mostly remote animators/artists for freelance work. We are speaking with clients and one of them had asked if we have a fee structure. Being new in the business, I don't really know what exactly a fee structure should be for this type of business. Does anyone have any insights on what animation studios normally charge their clients for beside the work itself? Since we hire freelancers currently, we are not renting an office space yet.

Music Publishing deal offer question for our cartoon

Hello everyone,

New to the forum. I am hoping those of you with broadcaster experience might be able to help with my question.

For a new cartoon series I am involved with I have negotiated a music publishing deal with a big music publisher (one of the majors).  I am very happy with the terms of the deal, 5 years, 85% in our favour, marketing help selling the music for complications/live dates etc all in the deal. There is also access to their  catalogue and writers and their legal help across the globe collecting for us.

A few burning questions about large-scale independent animation

Ever since I was 12, I've had this dream of producing an animated show. But as I grew older, I began to learn about the crippling pressures and constraints that often go with signing up a deal with Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, Disney, and other networks when getting a show on TV. I realized that the best way forward for producing an animated show as it was envisioned without compromising the vision, the quality, or the overall direction of its development was to completely go indie.

Do you have a completed film or TV series?

By TRUELY | Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at 4:55pm

Hello everyone.  I am in the process of launching a streaming service.  It will be launched in beta first and if things go well then there will be a full launch.  This will be a niche service and I am focusing on projects that feature minorities (especially African American) or has been created (at least 50%) by minorities.  You will not have to pay anything to be on the service.  In the beginning, it will be non-exclusive pay to play and the split on the fees will be 60/40 in your favor.  If we decided to move to a full (exclusive) license then we can discuss the terms at that time.  I am

Sound design for an animated short

By Dele | Sunday, February 12, 2017 at 1:22pm

Hi all.

I'm currently at the storyboarding stage of creating an animated short. My method of animating is to have the motion and music very much in-synch, with characters moving 'in beat to the music'.

With the storyboard as a guide, I would like a soundtrack composed that will fit with what happens on paper, while the animation may change slightly to accommodate the music. I understand there may be bit of to-and-through with this method...making everything fit, but..so be it.

Getting A Foot In the Door

By M-Night | Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at 9:32pm

I'm one of those people who has no idea where their question lies, so I chose here. To be blunt, I'm a kid without a highschool diploma and I love animation from all over the world. I know what I want to do with my life (own an animation company that makes series); my problem is getting there. How do I get my name out there? How do I get my foot in the door? How do I get people to notice what I'm doing? I've been doing research for over a year and honestly haven't found much I can use.

Looking for people to start a CG-channel at YouTube

By orangic | Monday, January 9, 2017 at 9:56am

Hello everyone!

I am starting a YouTube-channel and are looking for people to join me.

My idea is simple: people can send us short films, reels, tutorials, breakdowns/making of, software/tech demo, etc. and we'll upload it to the channel. This provides the possibility for small businesses/private persons to promote their content to a larger audience compared with what they ever should reach if they did it themselves.

I am seeking writers, programmers, people that are familiar with YouTube, you name it.

Hungry Novice looking for advice

By RSJ1106 | Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at 11:34am

Hello, my name is Rich and I have a love character design. Back in 2009 I attended art school for media arts and animation. Unfortunately I had to drop out due to financial difficulties. I spent close to 5 years not drawing or doing anything creative. I have regained my spark and I have been practicing and drawing more than I did when I was in college. But I want to make my passion into a career in the field of character design.

Looking for someone to create animated videos on Explaindio

By Tradedog | Thursday, November 24, 2016 at 4:11am

Hi all - I have the latest version of Explaindio with lots of assets. I don't have the time to learn how to use it.

I'm looking for someone to create videos on a regular basis for me. I will give them the software and assets to use and they are free to do whatever they want with it when they are not doing stuff for me.

I do need somebody who is good at this.

Get hold of me if you're interested.

Thanks

Questions About Pitching

By Jadatado | Friday, August 12, 2016 at 1:38pm

Hello!

I am a young aspiring animator/show writer, but I have a few questions that it would be lovely if someone could answer for me.

First of all, how old exactly do you have to be to pitch a show idea? Secondly, when you do pitch a show idea, and if by some chance it gets accepted, do you get to help with the storywriting for it from then on, or is it thereafter entirely out of your hands? I apologize if my questions are hard to understand- let me know if I need to clarify anything.

Is audio for animation typically out-sourced or done in-house?

Hello, this is my first post here. My name is Andrew, and I am a music/sound guy. My question is: How do animation studios (of all sizes) typically handle their audio? Is it mostly out-sourcing to audio-post facilities and freelancers, or is it done in-house? Thanks!

Bamboo Tablet CTH-470 delay on all paint programs besides "Paint" provided by Windows

By rinrin | Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 8:50pm

The pen wouldnt draw until I move it 3 cm away from where I start putting the pen down on the tablet.

This is especially noticeable when drawing a circle.

http://puu.sh/qkqPM/f8233c2448.png

As shown, the circles are not completely circular as I intended to draw them. It only happens when I use the tablet, it doesn't happen when I use my mouse.

In that image I am using Paint Tool SAI.

And I do not experience this problem in "Paint" provided my Windows.

Does anyone have a solution?
