I'm currently working on a project that, if all goes well in these troubled times, will get funding.
The project is a set of twelve 3 to 5 min. episodes showing the main events of an historical character's life in a cartoony way.
Having made some 2D animation in a solo manner, I'm looking for some advice and input from the community about the best way to go around and build a small (2 or 3 person) online animation team after the project is green-lit.

My friend and I have started a small animation company. We're doing a 1 minute trailer now in the hopes of winning a grant which will allow us to create a full length 8 minute animation. We have enough people to do the 1 minute trailer, but for the 8 minute animation we'll need more people. We need a Sound Designer, a VFX person, and possibly a character modeler. The crew we have now works remotely. I live in California, the storyboarder lives in South Africa, the concept designer/modeler lives in Italy, another modeler lives in Pakistan with the animator.

You must be keen to know how to understand that if the illustrator you are about to hire is capable of doing your task or not. It is way too simple! Just go through his portfolio and see if that illustrator has done something similar to your project before or not. It would help you get to know more about the illustrator you are about to hire. However, all the top children's book illustrators usually master in all genres. So you either hire the best one or don’t hire any. What do you prefer?
