THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING picked up five awards at the third annual DVD Premiere Awards, including the award for Best Overall New Extra Features in a New Release.

The ACM SIGGRAPH Awards program recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution to the computer graphics community through their research, teaching, service or writing. At SIGGRAPH 2003 the Steven A. Coons Award, the Computer Graphics Achievement Award and the Significant New Researcher Award will be presented. The Steven Anson Coons Award for Outstanding Creative Contributions to Computer Graphics recognizes long-term creative impact on the field of computer graphics through a personal commitment over an extended period of time.

DreamWorks' Jeffrey Katzenberg will be the first recipient of the newly established "Tex Avery Animation Award" at the 2002 Hollywood Film Festival, to be held in October in Hollywood, California. The award is named for legendary animator Tex Avery, who began his animation career in 1932 at Walter Lantz and went on to work at Warner Bros., MGM and Hanna Barbera. The award will be presented annually to honor an individual or group who have nurtured and advanced the art form of animation through outstanding contributions in the creative and/or technical arenas.

Jerry Scott, co-creator of the ZITS and BABY BLUES comic strips, has won the National Cartoonists Society (NCS) 2001 Reuben Award for Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year. The "Oscar of cartooning" was presented at a black tie gala during the 56th Annual Reuben Awards Weekend, held this year in Cancun, Mexico. The Reuben Award, given by the NCS each year for exemplary cartoon work created in the previous year, was designed by and named after the NCS' first president, Rube Goldberg. In addition, cartoonists in various professional divisions were also honored with special plaques for excellence.

DreamWorks co-founder Jeffrey Katzenberg was on hand January 22, 2002 to pick up SHREKs Los Angeles Film Critics Association (LAFCA) award for best animated feature, besting runner up MONSTERS, INC. The winners had been previously announced.
