The Oscar and Annie Award-nominated ‘Presto’ director also previously led teams on classics like ‘Monsters, Inc.’ and ‘Cars;’ he recently worked on Psyop-produced short-form content for mobile gaming giants Dream Games and Supercell.
Psyop has announced that the Oscar-nominated director/animator Doug Sweetland has joined their roster.
Sweetland previously led teams on Pixar classics like Monsters, Inc. and Cars. His recent Psyop-produced short-form content for mobile gaming giants Dream Games and Supercell have garnered over 600 million views across YouTube and TikTok. And of course, he directed one of Pixar’s best animated short, Presto (2008), which was nominated for both an Annie and Oscar.
“Doug is an animation genius; it was really inspiring to see him bring his sense of humor and play to this project because he backs it up with a deep, intuitive sense of what works in storytelling generally and animation specifically,” said Amanda Miller, executive producer at Psyop. “He’s a treat to work with, he makes projects fun and that comes through on the screen.”
Psyop co-founder Marie Hyon collaborated with Sweetland to direct the announcement of Dream Games’ latest release, Royal Kingdom with a teaser and full cinematic trailer.
“Doug brought his Pixar storytelling magic and sharp humor to this project, making the Dream Games characters all the more memorable,” noted Hyon. “His sense of charm was a huge part of what made this first chapter in the Royal Kingdom story work so well. More than just a collaborator, Doug’s vision and expertise lifted the whole creative process, making our collaboration into something special—for both the team and the fans.”
Sweetland looks forward to continuing to reinvent the way audiences experience narrative storytelling, world-building, and characters in new, innovative spaces.
“It’s an incredible honor to join the ranks of a studio that truly leans into animation’s limitlessness,” said Sweetland. “Psyop’s insatiable hunger to create cutting edge work for any form, style, or venue is one of the many things we have in common. To zip into tight Blue Angel formation with them is a dream.”
