The Jamaica Digital Arts Festival was formed to create a new opportunity to unleash and showcase some of the nation's productive energy and to develop a critical mass across all social divides to push this creativity for societal benefit. This festival is intended to kick-start national interest in a cultural industry based on the creation of digital arts products.

The Game Developers Conference Austin (GDC Austin) returns this September with three days focused on connected games including online games, virtual worlds, and social networking. Now in its 7th consecutive year, GDC Austin will continue as the mecca for online game developers worldwide to convene and share best practices, new perspectives, and business opportunities in connected games. GDC Austin conference tracks focus on the disciplines of Business and Marketing, Design, Social Networking and Community, Services, Production and Programming.

The Cartoon Art Museum hosts freelance artist and cartoonist Alex Schumacher on Saturday, August 22, 2009 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. as part of its ongoing Cartoonist-in-Residence program. Museum visitors will be offered the chance to talk to him about his comics and watch Schumacher at work.

GDC will bring to Europe its renowned conference content quality and its access to the industry leaders driving innovation in games across the globe, in an effort to engender learning, networking and inspiration. Presenting GDC Europe at gamescom, the leading European consumer and industry show, will allow the conference to address the development community at a central location in the heart of Europe which will command the critical mass of the European games sector.

The Ink Well is a group of New York animators, illustrators, and cartoon artists who draw with children facing illness in hospitals and other health care centers.

The Ink Well is on the hunt for some new volunteers so this Monday the 17th we're headed for a little food, drinks and fun on the outdoor patio of The Mad Hatter. All artists with a professional background in the arts are welcome. We'll be on the outdoor patio, ask for The Ink Well party.

The second annual Downtown Film Festival - Los Angeles (DFFLA), the only dedicated film festival in the historic core of the Entertainment Capital of the World, will be held August, 12-22, 2009. The festival doubles in size to 10 days from last year's inaugural event with a series of film screenings of Hollywood, independent and classic films, lectures, panel discussions, exhibits, and parties and receptions, all celebrating downtown L.A.'s renaissance.

Anticipation, The 67th World Science Fiction Convention, has added Ralph Bakshi as Artist Guest of Honor. Bakshi's career spans five decades, during which he has created memorable and groundbreaking films including WIZARDS, FIRE AND ICE and the first film adaptation of THE LORD OF THE RINGS. In addition, he has worked on and directed a variety of television shows including ROCKET ROBIN HOOD, SPIDERMAN, THE MIGHTY HEROES and THE NEW ADVENTURES OF MIGHTY MOUSE.

ANIMATION CLUB!!! presents 'Secret Handshake', a monthly animation night at Loop Bar in Melbourne. Each month, animators from all around the world create a short animation upon a given topic which is then screened and voted upon by the audience. The winner receives fame and glory... and gets to choose the next month's topic.

All animation styles are welcome - from hand-drawn, flash, claymation, stop motion, pixellation - or any combination of these. However - it MUST be animated! No live action allowed!

Comic-Con International is the largest gathering of comic book, science fiction, film and television fans in the nation.
