Join a select audience in screening award-worthy television hosted by The Envelope, the awards insider from the LOS ANGELES TIMES. Following each screening will be a conversation with the talent, moderated by their journalists with participation by you.

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA will screen June 4 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Primetime Emmy Screening Series. Other shows in the series include SONS OF ANARCHY (June 1), THE SHIELD (June 1), CALIFORNICATION (June 2), RESCUE ME (June 3), IN PLAIN SIGHT (June 9) and THE CLEANER (June 10).

For its third edition, Dimension 3 will be settle in the department of the Seine-saint-Denis, a region that strongly supports 3D research and production. This move will help the Forum to implement an animation plan in favor of the markets convergence

From June 2-4, 2009, Dimension 3 invites all the actors and professionals of the cinema, TV, video games, entertainment, communication or training industries to one of the most important event of the 3D industry in the world.

Josh Selig, founder and president of Little Airplane Productions, will offer the first-ever Little Airplane Children's Book Academy from May 30-June 1. The three-day intensive course, led by renowned children's book publisher Brenda Bowen, is designed for industry professionals and beginners alike who want to learn what it takes to make and sell successful picture books. The academy runs concurrent with Book Expo America (BEA) and tuition to the academy includes a three day admission to BEA.

With the highly anticipated Disney/Pixar film UP opening this weekend, Gallery Nucleus in Los Angeles is presenting a rare behind-the-scenes look at the production of the film with special guest artist Ronnie del Carmen. The artist, who served as story supervisor and lead story artist, will be on hand to present a plethora of process images and answer questions from the public.

Our next meeting is a special one. Animators and WIA members, Nina Frenkel and Ru Kuwahata, will be giving a talk on Thursday, May 28th, looking at the works of contemporary women animators. They will be showing work by today's women animators who are creating work and putting it out there in both the commercial and festival realms, discussing their mediums, processes, content and influences.

As a child, would you have guessed that one of your favorite toys would influence the future of 3D imaging technology? Cascade ACM SIGGRAPH, Oregon and Southwest Washington's local SIGGRAPH chapter, today announced the "From Toys to Technology - Stereoscopic Display" event, scheduled to take place Monday, May 18, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. at the Portland Community College (PCC) Cascade Campus. Highlighting Oregon-engineered stereoscopic display systems, the evening will discuss stereoscopic terms and concepts, and will offer an inside look at Oregon's very own youth phenomenon, the View-Master.

The Los Angeles Chapter of ACM SIGGRAPH will present a one-night-only event titled "Building the Perfect CG Pipeline."

Presenters will examine the important factors in creating a working CG pipeline for animation, visual effects and commercials. Discussion will include challenges, how to avoid pitfalls, and create or improve a digital pipeline.

Comics creators Ronn Sutton (FEAR AGENT, ELVIRA, VAMPIRA) and Janet Hetherington (ETERNAL ROMANCE, ELVIRA, MONSTER LOVE) are joining Hobby Centre/The Cave Comics owner Bill Chappell on May 2, 2009, for some Free Comic Book Day fun at the store's new location in Ottawa.

Free comics (one per customer) will be offered during all store hours and visitors can see costumed crime-fighters -- SPIDER-MAN, BATMAN, STAR WARS characters and more.
