Metal Gear Solid Mobile Wins Awards

METAL GEAR SOLID MOBILE is the winner of the Grand Prix and Operator's Choice Awards at the International Mobile Gaming Awards, Konami Digital Ent. announced today.

The jury of the IMGA picked a total of six winners out of almost 400 entries from 33 countries.

METAL GEAR SOLID MOBILE will be available for purchase later in February at Verizon Wireless.

METAL GEAR, a game previously released on PlayStation and PlayStation 2, features dramatic 3D art displays in a classic tactical espionage action game.

Monster Distributes announced the completion of two packages sales of animated shows to Africa.

MNET/KTV licensed I'M AN ANIMAL (preschool series featuring animals introducing themselves), SLIM PIG (preschool series about a 2D pig living in a 3D world) and IT'S JERRY TIME (reality cartoon about the weird and hilarious misadventures of Jerry), as well as the special BANJO THE WOODPILE CAT, a traditional animated tale of a loveable kitten.

Anima 2008 Winners

AMER BETON, directed by Michael Arias, won the Anima 2008 Feature Film Grand Prix at the festival last week in Brussels.

The Michael Arias-directed film also won the Anima 2008 audience award.

Anima 2008's jury picked THE TALE OF HOW by the Blackheart Gang (South Africa) as the Anima 2008 Short Film Grand Prix.

The "Grand Prix de la Communaute française de Belgique" was given to the film LE PONT, created by Vincent Bierrewaerts.

Sway Adds to Corolla Ad Campaign

SWAY studio added liveliness, detail and whimsy to the 2009 Toyota Corolla campaign entitled "Through the Roof" for Saatchi & Saatchi LA.

SWAY's image-based lighting and animation techniques allowed the team to deliver more than five minutes of moving live action, 2D matte painting and full 3D shots.

Multiple customized 30 second commercials for different regions are part of this modular-based national campaign.

"Through the Roof" began airing in local markets across the country on Feb. 9.

EA Sports, IMG Team Up

Under a new agreement, IMG will partner with EA Sports to license and market its brand in a variety of new product categories, which could include sports camps, gaming lounges, publishing products, performance apparel.

The companies announced the news today, meaning EA's lineup of games, including the MADDEN NFL franchise will have products tied to it in the near future.

EA Sports is the world's leading sports software brand, and IMG and its global network license and market in the world of sports and entertainment.

Deluxe Entertainment Divides Rainmaker

Rainmaker postproduction and visual effects will be split into two divisions by its new parent company Deluxe Entertainment Services Group, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.

Mark Atkinson will lead the new Deluxe Vancouver, directing the unit's motion picture laboratory, telecine, editorial and media management operations.

Marianne O'Reilly will continue to manage the visual effects division as president of the new CIS Vancouver.

CIS Vancouver as well as the new CIS London (formerly Rainmaker U.K.) make up part of CIS Visual Effects Group.

Indian Animation Firms Team Up

DQ Entertainment and Percept Picture Company have signed a memorandum of understanding to co-produce three animation films in 2009-2010.

Two of the three will be in the mythology genre and the third is planned as a Bollywood masala flick.

Tapaas Chakravarti, Chairman and CEO of DQ Entertainment Limited said, "Bollywood's foray into animated Indian feature films with HANUMAN has triggered many announcements of animated features by Bollywood houses."

Bruno The Monkey Gets New Series

Fans of BRUNO AND THE BANANA BUNCH will soon have a completely new series to enjoy the characters.

Cuppa Coffee Studios announced Tuesday the new series LET'S GO BRUNO!, which combines 2D animation with live action in a simple, yet innovative game show format.

The show originally launched around the world on Nickelodeon with BRUNO, a 50-episode, 1-minute-each series exploring numbers, colors, shapes and sizes.

SHREK THE MUSICAL will make its Broadway debut this December, following preview performances in Seattle in late summer.

Tony Award winner Sutton Foster will portray Princess Fiona, Tony Award nominee Christopher Sieber will play Lord Farquaad and Kecia Lewis-Evans will portray The Dragon.

Casting for the title character and Donkey will be announced soon.

New Site For Classic Cartoons

DIC Entertainment has launched an online video channel, www.kewlcartoons.com, dedicated to new and classic cartoons for families and children.

Frederic Soulie will head the division, managing the company's network of sites.

Kewlcartoons.com features free, on-demand streaming animated television series from DIC's library of 3,000 half-hours of programming including DINO SQUAD, INSPECTOR GADGET and THE LITTLES.

The community also features chat and games, and is user-friendly for PC and Mac users.

Steve Gerber Passes Away

Steve Gerber, creator of Howard the Duck, passed away Sunday at the age of 60 in Las Vegas.

The comics legend lived in Los Angeles for more than 20 years, but lost his battle to pulmonary fibrosis in a Las Vegas hospital.

His friend Mark Evanier posted the news Monday on Gerbers blog (www.stevegerber.com/sgblog), just a week after Gerber himself had reported on his work on a new Doctor Fate book.

Pop Star Rain In Ninja Assassin

South Korean pop star Rain was cast in the leading role in the Wachowskis NINJA ASSASSIN, VARIETY reports.

Rain, also known by his given name Jung Ji-hoon, has a role in the Wachowskis upcoming SPEED RACER and is re-recording 70s hit KUNG FU FIGHTING for DreamWorks animated KUNG FU PANDA, also due this summer.

NINJA ASSASSIN will be produced by Joel Silver and the Wachowskis, with James McTeigue (V FOR VENDETTA) likely to direct.

Spore Release Date In September

THE SIMS creator Will Wrights new venture, SPORE, will be released Sept. 7, EA announced Tuesday.

SPORE is an epic journey that takes you from the origin and evolution of life through the development of civilization and technology and eventually all the way into the deepest reaches of outer space, according to the SPORE website.

The EA game simulates evolution and adaptation, letting users fight their way from amoebas up to large, sophisticated civilizations, then branching out to find other solar systems.

Three Arrested in Denmark in Plot to Kill Cartoonist

An assassination attempt has been thwarted with the arrest of two Tunisians and a Dane in Denmark on Tuesday.

One of 12 cartoonists who created caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad in 2005, Kurt Westergaard, 73, was the target, according to THE NEW YORK TIMES.

He depicted Muhammad wearing a turban in the shape of a bomb with a burning fuse.

The arrests were made in raids in the city of Aarhus, where Westergaard's paper, JYLLANDS-POSTEN, is located.

Voltron Descending on Boomerang

Classic VOLTRON episodes will air on the Boomerang Channel, starting Feb. 18.

The weekly strip show, repackaged from the 1984 episodes, will run for one year Mondays through Fridays.

Based on a Japanese series, VOLTRON is about a team of young pilots in charge of five robot lions that unite to form the mega-robot Voltron, defender of the of the planet Arus.

Animation and entertainment company W!LDBRAIN announced Wednesday a multi-million dollar licensing program for the children's series YO GABBA GABBA!

Magazine-style music series YO GABBA GABBA! was recognized by TIME magazine in 2007 as one of the top 10 new television series.

It airs domestically on Nick Jr. weekdays at 11:30 a.m. (ET/PT).

W!LDBRAIN has signed key licensees to create and distribute extensive merchandise in 2008, including apparel, accessories, books, games and toys.

Production Starts on Australian/Danish Series Enyo

Australian production studio Flying Bark Productions has teamed with Copenhagen-based studio Funhauser Film to co-produce the CGI series ENYO.

The program will being airing on German, Danish, Norwegian and Swedish TV in the fall of 2009.

Flying Bark's parent company EM.Entertainment will handle the worldwide distribution excluding Australia, Denmark and Scandinavia.

ENYO focuses on clever and talented 12-year-old Enyo, who is learning to understand the language of animals, read hidden messages in nature and see glimpses into the future.

4Kids Ent. closed several deals with global broadcast partners to air the popular new animation series DINOSAUR KING.

The fantasy adventure series airs Saturday mornings on 4Kids TV (Fox) and is a combination of traditional cel and CGI animation.

After earning strong ratings since its Sept. 2007 premiere, DINOSAUR KING is now set for broadcast on YTV (Canada), Jetix (Latin America), TV2 (Denmark) and TV4 (Sweden) during the upcoming 2008-09 season.
