Honkworm International has signed entertainment industry veteran Carah von Funk as senior vice president, corporate development. In her new post, von Funk will oversee the development of strategic business and creative alliances. She will be based out of Honkworm's New York office. Prior to joining Honkworm, von Funk served as vice president, business development for Razorfish Studios, an award-winning multimedia solutions company.
Blur Studio Enlisted For U.S. Army Reserve Spot
Blur Studio recently provided motion graphics design and production services for a new 60-second spot for the U.S. Army Reserve. The spot entitled "Dot You" promotes opportunities in the Army Reserve and highlights the service's Website, goarmyreserve.com. Typography animates over the live-action, echoing values such as "leadership," "dedication" and "adventure." The spot culminates with a series of hero shots over which appears the Army Reserve's Website address.

Quiet Man searches for "Intelligent Life" in two new 15 and 30-second spots for K'nex toy company. In the commercial, two animated aliens are sent to Earth to search for "signs of intelligent life." When they arrive, they ignore human beings and concentrate instead on a robotic toy built with high-tech plastic blocks called K'nex. The robotic toy has a Cyber Key device used to program it to perform different types of behavior such as that of a guard dog or a battle robot.

The 5th edition of Castelli Animati took place in Genzano Di Roma, Italy, October 4-8, 2000. An international jury comprised of Massimo Bucchi (Italy), Paul Driessen (Netherlands), Julian Nott (UK), Furio Scarpelli (Italy) and Wendy Tilby (Canada) chose the winners. Cinanima Announces More Prizes And Workshops
Seven films in Cinanima's international competition program are also in competition for the FNAC Prize for Best Portuguese Script and the Cartoon Portugal Prize for Best Portuguese Film. Witchblade Now Gets A TV Series
Upon the success of the TNT original movie, a new TV series based on the WITCHBLADE comic book will go into production. TNT has ordered 11 episodes from Warner Bros. to be broadcast next summer. The WITCHBLADE telepic was seen in 3.5 million households and was the most watch telepic for the week of August 21-27.

The British Academy of Film & Television Arts has announced its nominations for the third annual interactive entertainment awards. Three nods, for the technical innovation, learning and childrens awards, went out to the Lego & Steven Spielberg Moviemaker Set, which gives kids a virtual production studio in a box. In the learning category, the Moviemaker Set is up against the SCOTTISH WRITERS and STAR WARS MATHS JABBAS GAME GALAXY CD-Roms. In the childrens category, the Moviemaker Set will be competing against Cartoon Network U.K.
EM.TV’s CFO Steps Down In Light Of Stock Plummet
German childrens content producer EM.TVs Florian Haffa has stepped down from his position as chief financial officer. Haffa will remain with the company as deputy chairman to help his brother and founder Thomas Haffa run the day-to-day operations. Currently, EM.TV is seeking out Haffas replacement. Even though the move was planned in advance, it comes after the company announced Monday that it was adjusting its figures for the first six months of the year to fix an accounting error in their acquisition of the Jim Henson Company and Formula 1 Racing.
Icebox’s Mr. Wong Direct-To-Video Plans Melt
Talks between Artisan Entertainment and Icebox to transform the controversial Webtoon MR. WONG into a direct-to-video feature have melted. However, Icebox has said that it is now in talks with other studios to transform WONG into a theatrical feature or direct-to-video. An Artisan spokesman said that the toon didnt meet the studios criteria for acquisition.
