Witchblade Now Gets A TV Series

Upon the success of the TNT original movie, a new TV series based on the WITCHBLADE comic book will go into production. TNT has ordered 11 episodes from Warner Bros. to be broadcast next summer. The WITCHBLADE telepic was seen in 3.5 million households and was the most watch telepic for the week of August 21-27. Robert DeBitetto, TNTs president of original programming, said, "Our feeling was, Lets try to develop a finite number of great episodes that we will offer our viewers next summer as a special event that gives it a certain uniqueness and rarity that will make it more compelling. If the show performs as well as we hope it will, stay tuned for more." The WITCHBLADE series will be marketed as a multi-part special event, which depending on its success may spur on more limited series or telepics. The series will be produced by Top Cow Productions and Halsted Pictures. Ralph Hemecker will return as the director, with Top Cow Productions Marc Salvestri and Halsted Pictures Dan Halsted executive producing. The WITCHBLADE comic book follows the adventures of Sara Pezzini, a New York City detective who becomes a superhero with the aid of a living weapon.
