The 5th edition of Castelli Animati took place in Genzano Di Roma, Italy, October 4-8, 2000. An international jury comprised of Massimo Bucchi (Italy), Paul Driessen (Netherlands), Julian Nott (UK), Furio Scarpelli (Italy) and Wendy Tilby (Canada) chose the winners. The Grand Prize (ex-aequo) went to "Flying Nansen" by Igor Kovalyov, USA, and "Village Of Idiots" by Eugene Fedorenko & Rose Newlove, Canada. Other prizes are as follows: Special Jury Prize: "Ring Of Fire" by Andreas Hikade, Germany; Best First Film: "The Periwig Maker" by Steffen Schaeffler, Germany; Best European Film: "Un Couteau Dans Les Fourchettes" by Jean-Loup Felicioli & Alain Gagnol, France; Best Non-Narrative Film: "Nous Sommes Immortels" by Daniel Guyonnet, France; Audience Prize: "For The Birds" by Ralph Eggleston, USA and "The Old Man And The Sea" by Alexander Petrov, Russia/Canada/Japan; and the Fabrizio Bellocchio Prize For Best Social Content: "Un'altra Via Di Uscita" by Maurizio Forestieri, Italy. Special mentions: "Brother" by Adam Benjamin Elliot, Australia; "The Man With The Beautiful Eyes" by Jonathan Hodgeson, UK; and "For The Birds" by Ralph Eggleston, USA. The Italian Competition Jury, comprised of Konstantin Bronzit (Russia), Giulio Gianini (Italy) and Manfredo Manfredi (Italy), decided to not award the Grand Prize. They awarded the Special Jury Prize to "Life From Pluto" by Saul Saguatti and gave a special mention to "Mamellorso" by Simona Bursi.
