Nintendo President Satoru to Keynote 2005 GDC

Nintendo Co. Ltd. president Satoru Iwata will assess the game industry in his The Heart of a Gamer keynote address at the 19th annual Game Developers Conference (GDC), March 7-11, 2005, in San Francisco. Iwatas keynote will take place March 10 at 10:30 am in the Grand Ballroom of Moscone West.

Iwata will analyze where the games business stands today, predict how it will develop over the next several years and the manner in which it will help decide future Nintendo hardware and software development.

THQ To Put 2nd Incredibles Game in Play This Fall

THQ Inc. will do a follow-up to the hit videogame based on THE INCREDIBLES, scheduled to release this fall on the PlayStation2, PSP, Xbox, Nintendo GameCube, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS and PC/Mac.

THQ enjoyed enormous success with THE INCREDIBLES game launched in conjunction with the theatrical release this past November. Domestic shipments of the game have exceeded 2.5 million units, finishing 2004 as the overall best-selling new property of the year in the U.S., according to The NPD Group.

Atari Announces TimeShift for the PC & Xbox

Getaway Game Garners Sundance Spotlight

With the success of Sony Computer Entertainment Europes virtual acting work on the upcoming interactive THE GETAWAY: BLACK MONDAY, Sony Computer Entertainment America will present it at Sundance, reports HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. The goal is to highlight the game's cinematic aspects and Hollywood ties.

The sequel game, which ships Jan. 25, 2005, recreates 25 square miles of London's "Congestion Zone" and uses live actors for the game's central characters, utilizing them throughout the $20 million project's 18-month development schedule, which is rare for games.

7th Annual Independent Games Festival Names Finalists

The Independent Games Festival has announced the finalists in the seventh annual Independent Games Festival (IGF) competition. Selected by a panel of industry professionals, game development teams will compete for more than $40,000 in cash prizes. Finalists will exhibit their titles at the Game Developers Conference, March 7-11, 2005 in San Francisco and winners will be announced at the Game Developers Choice Awards Ceremony March 9.

Spike TV will be hosting its second annual Video Game Awards, hosted by hip hop impresario and avid gamer Snoop Dogg from Barker Hanger. The second annual awards celebrate the games, the designers, the animation, the music and the performances of the past year in videogames, while also taking a look to the future of games in 2005 and beyond.

The Spike TV 2004 Video Game Awards Advisory Board, consisting of gaming industry experts and media, will be announced in September with official categories and nominees to be announced later this fall.

Tigar Hare Creates Cinematics for GoldenEye: Rogue Agent Game

Tigar Hare Studios has created nine minutes of cinematic animation for GOLDENEYE: ROGUE AGENT, developed by Electronic Arts for the PlayStation2, Nintendo, Xbox and GameCube platforms.

Tigar Hare also created a :60 3D-animated theatrical trailer for HALO 2, Microsoft Game Studios record-breaking game title developed exclusively for Xbox by Bungie Studios. In its first 24 hours, HALO 2 sold 2.4 million units, or $125 million worth in North America.

Game Creator To Adapt Oz for Bruckheimer

Uber-producer Jerry Bruckheimer has optioned the videogame series OZ as well as tapped creator American McGee to adapt the film script, reports HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. Bruckheimer has put in place a trilogy deal with Walt Disney Co. based on the property, which serves as a prequel to the classic L. Frank Baum book, THE WIZARD OF OZ.

McGee will pen the first films script and outline two sequels. McGee and writer Camden Joy have already completed an 500-page illustrated novelization of the game, which Warner Books will publish.

New James Bond Game Puts Players in Villain’s Hands

Electronic Arts announced the release of the latest videogame in the JAMES BOND series, GOLDENEYE: ROGUE AGENT. This first-person shooter gives players the chance to explore the dark side of the Bond universe and experience life as a ruthless, unpredictable villain. The game is available for PlayStation 2, Xbox and the Nintendo GameCube.

Incredibles Game Ahead of the Pixar Pic

THQ Inc. Pixar Animation Studios and Disney Interactive released today (Nov. 1, 2004) THE INCREDIBLES videogame based on the upcoming film, THE INCREDIBLES (which comes out Nov. 5). THQs Heavy Iron Studios developed the game for PlayStation2, the Xbox and GameCube while Helixe developed it for Game Boy Advance and Beenox adapted the console version to PC/Mac.
