The Imaginarium Studios Names Maeve Russell Head of Production

UK-based mocap and performance capture facility founded by Andy Serkis is currently at work on the forthcoming Bandai Namco release, ‘Unkown 9 ; Awakening.’

The Imaginarium Studios has appointed Maeve Russell as the UK-based company’s head of production, reporting to CEO Matt Brown.

“As we embark on our busy summer shooting schedule, and a new slate of exciting new projects, I know that the team will be in good hands under Maeve’s leadership,” Brown commented in making the announcement. “The team always achieves exceptional results and delivers at the highest level, continuing to push the boundaries in performance capture and virtual production. I’m delighted to welcome Maeve to the team and I know we’ll all benefit from her experience.”

Working out of both company facilities at Pinewood Studios and Cinesite’s offices in central London, Russell’s immediate focus will be to provide production leadership, managing multiple shoots across all The Imaginarium Studios’ key project areas of games, films, music and TV.

Russell joins The Imaginarium Studios from Beyond Capture, where she served as vice president, having previously worked her way up the ranks from her role as a production coordinator through to head of production before being appointed VP. She has worked across a range of genres, from blockbuster movies, high-end episodic shows and tentpole games bringing knowledge of the international landscape following her previous role based in Vancouver. Russell started out in production in Web Summit, producing tech conferences around the world, and then migrated into the industry as a Production Assistant working on shows such as Supergirl and the Babysitter’s Club. Recent productions under her leadership include Resident Evil 4, New Tales from the Borderlands, and Hogwarts Legacy, among others.

“I’m so excited about joining the team,” Russell said. “They are a super-talented bunch with a true focus on producing the best performances possible. There is a genuinely good vibe about the studio. It feels like an exciting time to be part of it. Working hard with nice people creating great work — you can’t ask for anything more.”

The Imaginarium Studios was formed in 2012 by legendary actor and director Andy Serkis (Lord of the Rings, Planet of the Apes and the Star Wars franchises) as a stand-alone facility focused on performance-led capture and virtual production services. Serkis’ innovative approach to performance capture has changed the industry, and the company continues to push the boundaries of what is possible.

The company announced in June that it had opened a third production volume within the SIDE Studio 1 booth in central London. Recent credits include Napoleon (Sony Pictures Entertainment) Alan Wake II (Remedy) Cyberpunk: Phantom Liberty (CD Projekt Red), and Damsel (Netflix), as well as upcoming release Unkown 9 ; Awakening (Bandai Namco).
