Animation 2002 will take place at the University of Teesside on January 31 and February 1 2002.

Following on from last years hugely successful events which brought together past-masters such as Ray Harryhausen and future stars like Michael Dudok De Wit, the 2002 event has a hard act to follow. However, it seems that organisers Chris Williams and Siobhan Fenton have managed to achieve the impossible. The line up of speakers and workshops is, to say the very least, impressive.

In 1979 Reg Hartt invited animation artist BOB CLAMPETT to Toronto for an in-depth look at his career. The next year FRIZ FRELENG, BERNARD B. BROWN and GRIM NATWICK were given the same treatment. Legendary animation artist SHAMUS CULHANE followed. TEX AVERY would not travel. He talked with Reg by phone. Reg met with and learned from CHUCK JONES.These dialogues have been published.

RICA/Wissembourg Animated Film Festival

The RICA (Rencontres Internationales du Cinema d'Animation) is a competitive festival promoting animated film and filmmakers. For its 4th edition the festival will present 250 short and feature films. The official competition will include several feature films and about forty shorts. Five prizes will be awarded, including: the International Jury Prize, Children's Jury Prize and Best Feature Film Prize. Film formats for submissions are: 35 mm (preferably), 16 mm and BetaSP (No Digital Beta). There is no entry fee.
