To celebrate its 21st anniversary, Imagina, the International Festival for Digital Images, innovates. Animation 2002 will take place at the University of Teesside on January 31 and February 1 2002.

Following on from last years hugely successful events which brought together past-masters such as Ray Harryhausen and future stars like Michael Dudok De Wit, the 2002 event has a hard act to follow. However, it seems that organisers Chris Williams and Siobhan Fenton have managed to achieve the impossible. The line up of speakers and workshops is, to say the very least, impressive.

In 1979 Reg Hartt invited animation artist BOB CLAMPETT to Toronto for an in-depth look at his career. The next year FRIZ FRELENG, BERNARD B. BROWN and GRIM NATWICK were given the same treatment. Clips from such seminal films as AKIRA, GHOST IN THE SHELL, PRINCESS MONONOKE, PERFECT BLUE, LAPUTA: CASTLE IN THE SKY and PON POKO, plus some special surprises, will receive rare U.S. big screen presentation.

The 3rd annual Week With The Masters Animation Festival is a unique conference that serves as a creative meeting place for some of the world's most talented and renowned animators, artists and writers in the business. For the 2nd year, there will be an Animation Competition which last year attracted widespread interest from Singapore, The Philippines, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia and India. Entries include films by student and independent filmmakers and its goal is to increase the visibility of Asian animation filmmakers.
