How to emulate soft jagged line art style commonly used in Europe

By Ashman | Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 1:38pm

Howdy,

My name is Ash and I'm an animation hobbyist who really enjoys 2D animation from studios like Cartoon Saloon in Ireland. After seeing the art style for their upcoming film The Breadwinner, I simply had to know how all these animators in Europe are using the lineart style they have. Im talking about the lines with rough edges that look traditional but are clearly digital. I'm using Toon Boom Animate Pro 2, and have tinkered with the settings to no avail.

Getting into Animation

By Prayercall | Monday, October 24, 2016 at 10:40am

Im interested in learning animation. I have tried coding. I successfully built a website and learned some on building video games but I do not feel like its for me. I was watching some animations with my child and notice maybe this could be something for me.

I have tons of free time. downside no money to invest into anything not even go to college for the time being. I search youtube for tutorials but cannot find where to start.

The Narrative Format in Animation: Episodic/Procedural and Story Arcs/Serialised

By Rhysins | Monday, October 3, 2016 at 7:18pm

Okay so the title itself may not be the best way to explain my topic, but I will do my best here if you can all bare with me.

So I am in my third year of an Animation Degree and I decided to do my Dissertation on the Episodic Format in Animation. It would go along the lines of showing how successful this can be in telling stories and how effective the format would be at engaging audiences.

Needs feedback on animation

By SVang | Thursday, April 28, 2016 at 4:33pm

I'm still getting the hang of 3d animation and really needs feedback on my progress.  Or any other website that would give me feedback on the works I'm doing, point me to it.

Here a link of my animation that I'm working right now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEG77LMP7hk

I had not done anything on the boy on this animation yet.  It just my blocking that I just spline it.

Where can I get my work critically reviewed?

By S.H. Sunny | Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at 12:35am

“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”

Hiya to all, new to this board and I'm out there to ask a question.

Being kinda new to animation and art websites in general, I'm kind of lost, so I was wondering what were the best places to get my work, in animation, painting, drawing, ect...reviewed by professionals who could give me advice as to how to get better, and not just on techniques, but on the professional scale (what I would need to do to improve as pro and not just a hobbyist)? I want to get as many critics as possible, so this is why I'm asking instead of just making a thread here.

Thanks in advance.

Funny, funny

I am a huge fan of animations of any kind because of the utterly impressive ammount of knowledge one must own in order to single handedly start creating content with minimal use of dedicated software.  At my school not much was told us about what happens in the background of image modeling and me being naive , I had listened to a friend of mine who told me as following " Little fellow, do you want to know how to get a girl to like you?

Gentlefolk:

The good people at Dwango have purchased the rights to the most powerful version of the Italian-made 2D animation software, Toonz.  Being the good fellows that they are, they have made this version of Toonz Open Source - and it is free to be used commercially, as well as casually - for any purpose.
