Wes Ball (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, Maze Runner) will helm a feature adaptation of the video game Ruiner for Universal Pictures, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Michael Arlen Ross will pen the script.
Set in 2091 in the cyberpunk city Rengkok, the video game from Reikon centers on a wired psychopath that fights for good against a corrupt system, and uncovers dark secrets with the help of a mysterious hacker. The brutal story-driven shooter is very influenced by the cult cyberpunk anime art style.
Kelly McCormick and David Leitch produce as part of 87North’s first look-deal with Universal Pictures. Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg, Ball and Joe Hartwick Jr. produce alongside executive producers Timothy I. Stevenson, Dan Jevons, Marek Roefler, Magdalena Tomkowicz, and Jakub Stylinski. Ryan Jones and Jacqueline Garell oversee the project for Universal Pictures.
