Titan Books Releases ‘The Art And Making Of Ultraman: Rising’ Book

The official, comprehensive, lavishly illustrated coffee-table book by Drew Taylor features exclusive imagery and commentary from director Shannon Tindle and co-director John Aoshima.

Titan Books’ “The Art And Making Of Ultraman: Rising” by Drew Taylor, which takes a deep dive into the making of Netflix’s Ultraman: Rising, is now available.

Fans can now enjoy this official, comprehensive, lavishly illustrated coffee-table book, featuring exclusive imagery and commentary from writer/director Shannon Tindle and co-director John Aoshima.

Speaking on the creative process, Taylor said, “We made signposts in terms of what departments we wanted to cover and then I just set out to interview a shit-ton of people. Thankfully, everybody said yes. Over and over I heard that it was the best project any of these artists had worked on – and this is coming from people who are new to the business and seasoned pros. All I did was tell the story of how a group of truly creative, awe-inspiring people made a beautiful, brilliant movie.”

“Learning more about Industrial Light & Magic’s process was divine,” added Taylor. “The wizards that work there have always been heroes. Now a few are friends.”

In the film, when Tokyo is threatened by rising monster attacks, an all-star athlete reluctantly returns home to take on the mantle of Ultraman, discovering that his greatest challenge isn’t fighting giant monsters – it’s raising one.

“The Art and Making of Ultraman: Rising” goes behind the scenes of the film for an in-depth look at the animated movie-making process. Starting at the genesis of the original idea, the book follows along as the team designs a baby Kaiju, creates bold, stylized worlds, and crafts the emotional heart of the story. This is accompanied by expert commentary from cast and crew, including Tindle and Aoshima.

Speaking of collaborating with the makers of the film, Taylor said, “It was clear that Shannon shared my goal of wanting to do a full-throated making-of book instead of just an art of book. With our powers combined, our dream came true!”

“So much work and time went into the creation of Ultraman: Rising,” concluded Taylor. “It really does take a village – a village of insanely talented artists and technicians, who poured their heart and soul into this very special film.”
