Teaser Trailer Drops for Horror Comedy ‘Screamboat’

The grisly flick, directed by Steven LaMorte and starring David Howard Thornton, follows a sadistic version of the beloved Steamboat Willie character as he torments a group of unsuspecting ferry passengers.

The fast-approaching spooky season has ferried in a teaser trailer for the upcoming horror flick, Screamboat, starring a version of the now public domain “Steamboat Willie” character that’s decidedly not Bob Iger friendly.

The horror comedy follows a sadistic version of the beloved mouse as he torments a group of unsuspecting ferry passengers.

Screamboat stars David Howard Thornton (Terrifier) and is directed by Steven LaMorte (The Mean One). According to LaMorte, the macabre Mickey is “a 100 percent in-camera practical creature,” designed by Quantum Creation FX as both puppet and costume.

“Steamboat Willie has brought joy to generations, but beneath that cheerful exterior lies a potential for pure, unhinged terror,” LaMorte previously stated in a press release. “It’s a project I’ve been dreaming of, and I can’t wait to unleash this twisted take on this beloved character to the world.”

The iconic character entered the public domain on January 1, 2024. Disney was originally set to lose the copyright to Mickey and Minnie in 2004, but benefited from a 20-year allowance when Congress extended terms in 1998. Other Mickey projects include Mickey’s Mouse Trap, another horror comedy, and Infestation 88, a survival horror game by Nightmare Forge Games.

Screamboat is expected to hit theaters early 2025.
