The adaptation will follow the same storyline in the game, 20 years after modern civilization falls. "What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse the US and depend on each other for survival," WarnerMedia's press release said.
The series will be penned by Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) in partnership with Last of Us writer and creative director Neil Druckmann, with Kantemir Balagov (Beanpole) set to direct. The critically acclaimed PlayStation-exclusive horror franchise The Last of Us, developed by Naughty Dog, is widely labeled as one of the best video games of all time.
