The ‘House of the Dragon’ actress joins Peter Safran and James Gunn’s new DCU as Kara in ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ based on the series of comics by Tom King and Bilquis Evely, with the possibility of debuting the character in ‘Superman: Legacy,’ out July 11, 2025.
DC Studios has found its Supergirl. Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) will join Peter Safran and James Gunn’s new DCU as the Woman of Steel in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, based on the series of comics by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. Gunn took to Instagram to confirm the exciting news.
“Milly is a fantastically talented young actor, and I’m incredibly excited about her being a part of the DCU,” wrote Gunn. “Yes, I first became aware of her in House of the Dragon but I was blown away by her varied auditions and screen tests for #Supergirl. She embodies Kara as envisioned by @tomking_tk, @bilquis and Ana Nogueira.”
Ana Nogueira will pen the upcoming superhero flick, which currently does not have a release date. While plot details are still under wraps, the “Woman of Tomorrow” comic series follows a teenage Kara as she watches the destruction of Krypton and flees to Earth, much like her cousin Kal-El.
“We see the difference between Superman, who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he’s an infant, versus Supergirl, who was raised on a rock chip off of Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life,” Gunn previously shared. “She’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.”
The upcoming DCU slate comprises 10 film and television projects, which all interconnect within the same universe. Viewers can expect projects to share characters, unless appearing outside of the shared continuity. With a casting announcement so far ahead of development for Woman of Tomorrow, Alcock may debut as Kara in Superman: Legacy, which begins shooting this year.
The new saga (much like the MCU ‘Phases’) will begin with “Chapter 1,” in the theme of “Gods and Monsters.” The first film in the new slate is Gunn’s Superman: Legacy, set to release in theaters on July 11, 2025.
No word yet on a director or who will handle the ‘super’ VFX.
