Matt Reeves’ ‘Arkham Asylum’ Series Officially in the DCU

DC Studios co-chairman James Gunn has confirmed the mysterious upcoming series will be canon and may feature characters and plotlines from other projects within the DCU; Reeves’ ‘The Batman – Part II’ and ‘The Penguin’ remain part of DC Elseworlds.

DC Studios co-chairman James Gunn recently revealed that Matt Reeves’ upcoming Arkham Asylum series will be part of the official DCU, despite his previous film The Batman being delegated to the DC Elseworlds.

"Right now Matt is producing Arkham as a DCU series, so there’s just the two for now […] both within his The Batman universe and within the DCU,” Gunn stated to a fan on Threads, when asked what projects Reeves was working on.

While story and casting details have not yet been revealed for Arkham, it may feature characters and plotlines from other projects within the DCU canon, which will kick off with Creature Commandos and Superman: Legacy, the first film from Gunn and Safran’s new Gods and Monsters chapter.

Following the success of The Batman, Reeves is expanding the universe with The Batman – Part II as well as the spinoff series The Penguin, following Colin Farrell’s Oswald Cobblepot. Both will remain within DC Elseworlds.

Superman: Legacy is slated to fly into theaters July 11, 2025.
