Latest version includes USD updates and VFX Reference Platform 2023 support with new USD scene manipulation, muti-threaded live rendering and Optimized Geolib3-MT Runtime.
Leading M&E creative software developer Foundry has announced that Katana 7.0, the latest version of its powerful LookDev and lighting tool, is now available. The new release features USD updates to minimize the friction and disruption of switching between applications and departments, along with VFX Reference Platform 2023 support.
Katana 7.0 follows the recent Nuke 15.0 & 14.1 launch and is available as a dual release, launching alongside Katana 6.5. The dual release offers identical features but with different VFX Reference Platform support.
Here’s what’s new in Katana:
- USD scene manipulation — building on the same underlying architecture as Nuke’s new 3D system, the update features the pipeline flexibility that comes with USD 23.05.
- Multi-threaded Live Rendering — compatible with Foresight+, artists can benefit from improved performance and user experience.
- Optimized Geolib3-MT Runtime — features new caching strategies, improved memory management, and minimized downtime.
