STAN LEE MEDIA (SLM) has hired Iwerks/Universal executive JON CORFINO to head their new location-based entertainment division. Most recently senior vice president, executive in charge of production at Iwerks Entertainment, Corfino previously served as project manager of the planning and development group at Universal Studios. In his newly created post as president, theme park and location-based attractions of Stan Lee Media, Corfino will help the company leverage for the expanding market a new generation of superheroes and super-villains originated on the Web. During his tenure with Iwerks, Corfino worked with SLM to develop ride simulations, 3D/4D FX attractions and giant-screen entertainment destinations. "We are very pleased to launch our LBE division under the guidance of Jon Corfino, whose creative and business savvy have made him one of the best in the business," said SLM co-founder Peter F. Paul. Corfino began his career in the theme and leisure industry working at the Universal Studios Tour. Eventually he was promoted to project manager of the planning and development group at Universal where he worked on such attractions as "The Star Trek Adventure," "Back to the Future: The Ride," "ET: The Extraterrestrial" and the "Special Effects Stages." Corfino was initially hired by Iwerks as an independent producer to create large-format films.
