The project, which was set in ‘The Batman’ universe, was described by Matt Reeves as, ‘like a horror movie or a haunted house that is Arkham.’
Arkham Asylum, the spinoff series to Matt Reeves’ The Batman with Antonio Campos (The Staircase, The Sinner) set to write, direct, and showrun/executive produce, will no longer move forward at Max. Although Campos’ version has been axed, an insider has noted another version may be developed in the future.
The Arkham series was separate from the previously announced Gotham PD series, which was also set in Reeves’ The Batman universe. While the plot was never fully revealed for the project, Matt Reeves had previously described it as, “like a horror movie or a haunted house that is Arkham.”
Reeves was set to executive produce under his 6th & Idaho banner with Daniel Pipski and Adam Kassan, alognside Dylan Clark with 6th & Idaho’s Rafi Crohn. Warner Bros. Television served as the series studio.
While the sun has set on Arkham Asylum (for now), Matt Reeves’ The Penguin series will debut on Max in September.
