World-renowned designer, concept artist and futurist Syd Mead will speak and sign books at Gnomon School of Visual Effects at 7:00 pm. In Hollywood Mead is known for his concept and design work for films, including the "V'ger" entity for STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE, BLADE RUNNER, TRON, 2010, MISSION TO MARS, ALIENS, STRANGE DAYS, TIMECOP, JOHHNY MNEMONIC and SHORT CIRCUIT. But Mead's influence extends to much more of the world around us through his design for clients such as Ford, Philips/Eindhoven, American Motors, Volvo, Chrysler and U.S. Steel. After establishing himself as a futurist consultant, he has visualized technology and innovative products for a diverse slate of companies, including Sony, Chrysler, Mechanix Illustrated and Playboy. His interiors grace multiple privately owned 747 aircraft and yachts. The speech will be followed by a book signing. The event will have copies of OBLAGON and Mead's latest book SENTURY for sale.
