Sources with the Hartford Animation Institute announced this week the facility would be presenting a series of animated shorts on Nov. 30, 2006, at the CRT Youth Art and Technology Center to address financial responsibility.
The program, which will start at 5:00 pm, is titled, "Big Time Saver," and will feature cartoon characters developed by Joe Young, the institute's director. The institute, which is a private non-profit organization operating under the auspices of The Joe Picture This Show Inc., began operating in 2004.
Young is presenting the program in cooperation with an initiative from the office of the state treasurer to promote financial literacy. Speakers at the event will include Connecticut State Treasurer Denise Nappier, Hartford Mayor Eddie Perez and Susan Rottner, president of the Bank of America in Connecticut.
The shorts consist of three segments developed by students at the institute. They will make their local television debut on Fox 61 and nationally on the Black Family Channel on Dec. 2. The characters appearing in the segments first appeared in Young's comic strip, SCRUPLES, which began in 1988 and ran for four years.
