licencing fees

By g-man | Monday, March 5, 2007 at 10:29am

Does anyone know where I can find out licencing fees paid by tv stations for an animated show - either series or specials? I am interested in finding out cable stations, networks, international, and anything else that would help. If the fee is paid per airing, per affiliate, etc.

Thanks in advance.

Like everything else, "it's all a negotiation." But that doesn't really help. Check out cable and TV channel trade magazines for what it costs them to acquire content for their stations. I've heard that for feature film acquisition, the deal will be for a certain number of screenings within a limited time frame e.g., 5 airings in one month. Other deals are for each time it airs, you get a check. Depends on what you have and what the channel wants.

But... there's another place you can visit for at least one benchmark. The BBC. The BBC is government-owned and therefore it publishes the rates that it pays for content (tarriffs) right on its website.(it's public information). Actually the BBC producers' website has lots of good information about the entertainment business in general.

Here's an interesting "So you wanna pitch a TV show" page...
