After laying off 5% of its workforce last year and 6% in 2023, the major game company is cutting staff and stopping development work on the next installment of its ‘Titanfall’ franchise; cuts include staff on Respawn ‘Apex Legends’ and ‘Star Wars Jedi’ teams.
A new year, another set of layoffs for big game company Electronic Arts. After laying off roughly 670 employees - around 5% of its workforce - early last year, and around 800 employees - around 6% of its workforce - in 2023, the company is laying off more than 300 workers and canceling work on its latest Titanfall franchise game, according to Variety. Some of the cuts were made on the Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi teams at EA-owned Respawn.
A Respawn X post from earlier today stated:
“As we sharpen our focus for the future, we’ve made the decision to step away from two early-stage incubation projects and make some targeted team adjustments across ‘Apex Legends’ and ‘Star Wars Jedi. These decisions aren’t easy, and we are deeply grateful to every teammate affected — their creativity and contributions have helped build Respawn into what it is today. We’re offering meaningful support to those impacted, including exploring new opportunities within EA.”
