In which Chris Robinson asks animation professionals profoundly inane questions about the inner workings of their lives. Today's guest is Paul Fierlinger (Drawn from Memory).
An animator, director and producer, Paul Fierlinger has done it all. From his early shorts for Sesame Street (Teeny Little Super Guy) to his poetic commissioned films (And then I’ll Stop) and personal works (Drawn from Memory, My Dog Tulip, A Room Nearby, Still Life with Animated Dogs), Fierlinger’s work has been marked by tender, humanist portraits that are touching and heart-warming without being drenched in cheese.
Paul agreed to meet me and my dog Pookie in field. The year was 2018. The month was March. The weather was grey. Our moods, including Pookie’s, were not.
I get the greatest pleasure from....
My work – sorry.
The trait I like least about myself is
That I feel I have to apologize for drawing every day.
The book I value above all others is
The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery, which was the first adult book I read all by myself and that, was the year the book came out.
A (non-family member) person I have high respect for is....
My wife Sandra.
because…
She is the first wife I’ve ever had who allows me to be who I am without grudges or complaints. Oh, wait, no relatives…. Let’s leave it. I can’t think of anyone else and she’s not a blood relative so this should count.
The song that makes me tingle is....
“Ne Me Quitte Pas” sung by Nina Simone because I heard it the first time just recently and it made me tingle.
The funniest thing that happened to me….
When I mistook my wife for a hat but that might have been a book.
