“Brave,” “Frankenweenie” and “ParaNorman” receive nominations for Best Animated Feature;” Dark Knight Rises,” “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” “Life of Pi,” “Marvel Avengers Assemble” and “Prometheus” are nominated for Best Special Visual Effects.
Twelve films are shortlisted to compete for nominations in the Best Animated Feature category for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s Golden Globe Awards.

For Outstanding Animated Feature, the nominees are PERSEPOLIS, RATATOUILLE and the surprise nominee SURF'S UP. For Outstanding Animated Short, the five nods went to Samuel Tourneux's EVEN PIGEONS GO TO HEAVEN (exec produced by Simon Vanesse), Josh Raskin's I MET THE WALRUS, Chris Lavis and Maciek Szczerbowski's MADAME TUTLI-PUTLI, Aleksandr Petrov's MY LOVE and Suzie Templeton's PROKOFIEV'S PETER AND THE WOLF (produced by Hugh Welchman).
All three nominations going to animated feature entries this year for the 49th Annual Grammy Awards were all from Disney/Pixar's CARS. The flick's album was nominated for Best Compilation Soundtrack Album." Randy Newman and James Taylor got a nod in Best Song Written For A Motion Picture for "Our Town." A Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance nomination went to John Mayer for his rendition of "Route 66," which was used in CARS. The winners will be announced on Feb.

The big animation winner was THE SIMPSONS with three scripts nominated including Matt Selman for "The Dad Who Knew Too Little," J. Stewart Burns for "Moe Baby Blues" and Michael Price for "My Mother The Carjacker." FOX series weren't finished with THE SIMPSONS though. Honoring outstanding achievement in animation, this year's twenty-two categories recognize feature films, television programming, commercials, home videos and special projects in categories ranging from directing, writing and voice acting to production design, storyboarding and music.
Both THE LORD OF THE RINGS and SHREK scored a number of nominations at the British Academy Film and Television Awards (BAFTA), which were announced on Monday, January 28, 2002. With twelve nominations, THE LORD OF THE RINGS tied with MOULIN ROUGE for the highest honors, while SHREK was no slouch with six noms. Both LORD and SHREK were honored with best film and best visual effects nominations. Eddie Murphy received a supporting actor nod for his work as Donkey, and SHREK also picked up nominations in the Sound, Music and Adapted Screenplay categories.
