The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences have announced the nominations for the 80th Academy Awards. For Outstanding Animated Feature, the nominees are PERSEPOLIS, RATATOUILLE and the surprise nominee SURF'S UP. For Outstanding Animated Short, the five nods went to Samuel Tourneux's EVEN PIGEONS GO TO HEAVEN (exec produced by Simon Vanesse), Josh Raskin's I MET THE WALRUS, Chris Lavis and Maciek Szczerbowski's MADAME TUTLI-PUTLI, Aleksandr Petrov's MY LOVE and Suzie Templeton's PROKOFIEV'S PETER AND THE WOLF (produced by Hugh Welchman).

Cars Picks Up Three Grammy Nominations

All three nominations going to animated feature entries this year for the 49th Annual Grammy Awards were all from Disney/Pixar's CARS. The flick's album was nominated for Best Compilation Soundtrack Album." Randy Newman and James Taylor got a nod in Best Song Written For A Motion Picture for "Our Town." The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror films announced the nominations for the 32nd annual Saturn Awards. George Lucas' STAR WARS: EPISODE III REVENGE OF THE SITH led all nominees with 10 nominations.

BATMAN BEGINS placed second, with nine nominations, followed by THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE and HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE, which both received eight nominations.

The Game Developers Choice Awards recognize games and developers that are truly worthy. The recipients are chosen by creators, who know what it takes to make great games. To submit your nominations, go to: www.igda.org/awards/nominations.htm. All game developers are eligible to submit nominations. In order to nominate, a developer must be registered with the igda. only those game developers who submit nominations will be eligible to participate in the voting process for the finalists. The Game Developers Choice Awards ceremony will be held at the Game Developers Conference.

TRIPLETS OF BELLEVILLE received three nominations for Best French Film, Best First Film and Best Original Music. The Writers Guild of America, East and West have announced the nominations for outstanding achievement in television writing during the 2003 season. The big animation winner was THE SIMPSONS with three scripts nominated including Matt Selman for "The Dad Who Knew Too Little," J. Stewart Burns for "Moe Baby Blues" and Michael Price for "My Mother The Carjacker." FOX series weren't finished with THE SIMPSONS though. BAFTA Nominations Announced

Both THE LORD OF THE RINGS and SHREK scored a number of nominations at the British Academy Film and Television Awards (BAFTA), which were announced on Monday, January 28, 2002. With twelve nominations, THE LORD OF THE RINGS tied with MOULIN ROUGE for the highest honors, while SHREK was no slouch with six noms. Both LORD and SHREK were honored with best film and best visual effects nominations. Eddie Murphy received a supporting actor nod for his work as Donkey, and SHREK also picked up nominations in the Sound, Music and Adapted Screenplay categories.
