At Annecy 2021, first time screenings, masterclasses, and keynotes include a look back with ‘Mémoire d’une minute,’ a shorts collection for Annecy award-winning directors; a masterclass presented by Walt Disney and Kugali animation studios; and a keynote by Terrence Malick about VR ‘Evolver – Prologue.’
Nine additional features selected to screen in the Contrechamp program at upcoming festival, running both online and onsite from June 14-19.
The event kicked off May 10 with a full slate of online and onsite events including meetings, conferences, workshops, and presentations; the Best Shorts finalists will be available for home viewing through May 23 via the Retiana Latina and Filmin platforms.

44 shorts, 47 graduate films, 26 TV films and 32 commissioned films will compete; the hybrid virtual/physical event is set for June 14-19, as festival organizers continue to weigh options for how best to provide a safe and enjoyable on-site experience.
Highlights for this year’s Stuttgart Animation Festival include the international competition for short films; German premieres of ‘Wolfwalkers’ and ‘Josee, the Tiger and the Fish;’ ‘Creating*Diversity and Pandemic Animation’ film compilations hitting on current social and political topics; and ‘Wonderwomen – Women in Games & Animation.’
The festival will kick-off its first hybrid edition with an integrated program for in person and remote participants; this year’s theme is ‘Creating*Diversity.’
