Fox Animation has hired Matthew Weiss to pen an feature script based on the Emily the Strange character created by Rob Reger, reports VARIETY. The live-action feature will contain some animation.
Emily the Strange is a rail-thin 13-year-old goth girl whose adventures are as dark as she is. Reger created the character l in 1993 through promotional stickers, skateboards and T-shirts that he distributed from his garage. Emily is now a multimillion-dollar brand, which includes an apparel line, three bestsellers published by Chronicle Books and a quarterly from Dark Horse Comics.
Fox Animation president Chris Meledandri and Fox Animation vp John Cohen will shepherd the film for the studio.
