Affected staffers include those in finance, business affairs, and production; most cuts will be in the finance department, with less than 10 cuts to Max staff.
When will the cuts stop? Warner Bros. Discovery is laying off nearly 1,000 employees across multiple sectors, including finance, business affairs, production, and at streamer Max in the name of cost-cutting. Most of the cuts will be in the finance department, with less than to Max staff.
Warner Bros. Discovery most recently downsized following the April 2022 merger between Discovery and WarnerMedia, which led to thousands of layoffs in 2022 and 2023. Last summer’s WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, also negatively impacted both HBO and Max.
Although the decision has been published, not all affected staffers have been informed of the layoffs. WBD has not yet responded with a comment.
