VFX sup Matthew Gratzner has taken a set in the director's chair for the feature film adaptation of the 1970s TV series UFO, VARIETY reports. Gratzner's f/x credits include the upcoming SHUTTER ISLAND, THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR, HANCOCK, IRON MAN and ALIEN: RESURRECTION.
The Robert Evans Co. optioned the property from ITV Global earlier in the year. Producers Evans, Henri Kessler and Avi Haas and Gratzner's New Deal Studios will produce the flick.
Ryan Gaudet and Joseph Kanarek are working on the script, while New Deal Studios works on pre-production art. Afterward, the project will be taken to financiers.
Like the series, the story follows the secret agency SHADO (Supreme Headquarters Alien Defense Organization), which is headquartered under a Hollywood studio, as they conduct a covert war against aliens that harvest human body parts.
