Gabe and Alan Polsky (BAD LIEUTENANT: PORT OF CALL NEW ORLEANS) are producing this latest stab at the novel, which has been in development with different players since its initial publishing. Previously director Alan J. Pakula had been circling the project with Hampton Fancher adapting a script.
The story mixes a film noir detective story with futuristic sci-fi. Set in Oakland and San Francisco, a private eye investigates the murder of an influential urologist. The novel includes hyper-intelligent children called baby-heads, animal evolution, sexual nerve sharing, karma-filled debt cards, and a kangaroo mobster.
