Robert Eggers to Write, Direct ‘Labyrinth’ Sequel Film

The long gestating Tristar Pictures project will be produced by Chris Columbus, Eleanor Columbus, and Lisa Henson, with Brian Henson executive producing; Eggers will pen the script with writing partner Sjón.

Robert Eggers (Nosferatu, The Witch) has boarded Tristar Pictures’ upcoming Labyrinth sequel as director and writer, according to Variety. Eggers will pen the script with writing partner Sjón. All plot details are currently under wraps.

Scott Derrickson was originally attached to direct the long-gestating project but exited in 2023 after referring to the film as, “a tough nut to crack.” The original Labyrinth film, starring David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly, has proven itself as a cult classic whose magic most certainly will prove “tough” to replicate - to say the least.

Before jumping into the Goblin King’s maze, Eggers will direct the werewolf horror flick Werwulf, which is slated for a December 2026 release from Focus Features.

Chris Columbus and Eleanor Columbus produce alongside Lisa Henson of The Jim Henson Company. Brian Henson executive produces.
