Animation studio behind last year’s ‘Leap!’ currently in production on ‘Fireheart,’ co-produced by Main Journey and Caramel Films.
Montreal-based L’Atelier Animation is pleased to announce the hiring of Peter Skovsbo as the studio’s General Manager. Skovsbo will focus on the company’s strategic development as well as a full operational review to better accommodate a growing roster of projects, including the studio’s latest animated feature film Fireheart, co-produced by Main Journey and Caramel Films, and distributed by Entertainment One.
“I was not looking for a career change when L’Atelier approached me,” Skovsbo reflected on the appointment. “However, our first meeting was an eye-opener in regard to the studio’s tremendous potential. As follow-up meetings deepened my understanding of the company’s talent, expertise and vision for the future, it became obvious that this had to be the next chapter in my career.”
Having studied philosophy at McGill and the Sorbonne, as well as filmmaking at Concordia University, Skovsbo embraced a career in visual effects in 1999. He has since then worked on more than 100 projects, big and small. Laurence Vacher, the studio’s head of production, comments that “We are very happy that Peter has joined us at the head of l’Atelier Animation. His background and vast expertise are very well known in the industry in Montreal.”
Skovsbo previously worked as an executive producer for Digital Dimension, where he collaborated on developing and modernizing the studio’s animation services offering. “Being able to rely on his experience will be particularly beneficial to the studio, as it is currently undergoing a rapid expansion,” notes head of CG, Benoit Blouin.
Operating in Montreal since its launch in 2012, L’Atelier Animation focuses exclusively on high-end animation projects such as Leap!. The studio’s inaugural feature-length film generated more than US $106 million at the box office, garnering an Annie Award nomination for Best Production Design along the way. In addition to Fireheart, L’Atelier Animation is currently working on the Netflix Original series Robozuna co-produced by KidsCave Entertainment and ITV Global Entertainment.
