Pasek & Paul Writing Songs for Blue Sky Musical

Creators of ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ and Oscar winners for ‘La La Land’ have signed on to ‘Foster,’ due in theaters in 2021.

Benj Pasek and Justin Paul will write songs for Blue Sky Studios' first animated musical, due in theaters in 2021.

Fox Animation and Blue Sky Studios have signed up Oscar-winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul to write songs for an upcoming animated feature, Variety reports.

The duo won the Best Song Oscar last year for “City of Stars,” from La La Land. They also are nominated this year for “This is Me” from The Greatest Showman. They also penned “Get Back Up Again” for DreamWorks Animation’s Trolls and a number of songs for Warner Bros.’ home video animated feature Tom & Jerry: Back to Oz and created the hit Broadway musical Dear Evan Hansen.

The Blue Sky feature has a working title of Foster, and is being directed by Karen Disher and Steve Martino from a script by Tim Federle. Blue Sky’s first musical feature is due in theaters March 5, 2021.

The trade report describes the feature as an adventure film that centers on a young super fan who isn’t satisfied with the ending to a series of fantasy books. After he seeks out the author to voice his displeasure, the pair finds themselves transported into a mystical world.
