Following last November’s thoroughly adorable animated short ‘Zen: Grogu and the Dust Bunnies,’ the Studio Ghibli Twitter account has shared yet another teaser image hinting at a new collaboration.
We can’t handle the cuteness. The official Studio Ghibli Twitter account recently shared an image of Ahsoka and Grogu hanging out with the creepy/cute Kodama spirits from 1977's Princess Mononoke, with the caption “This Is A New Day, A New Beginning.” While the post could simply be in support of the Ahsoka announcements from the Star Wars Celebration event last week, it could be a teaser of a new collaboration between the beloved animation studio and Lucasfilm.
The iconic studios previously came together to create Zen: Grogu and the Dust Bunnies, a hand-drawn animated short that focuses on Baby Yoda and some friendly soot sprites, the beloved Ghibli characters from My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away. Zen dropped November of last year and can be streamed now on Disney+ in the Star Wars section. The three-minute film features a purple-eared Grogu as he meets and plays with the mischievous “dust bunnies,” aka the Susuwatari, or soot sprites, for the first time. The short was directed by Katsuya Kondo, and of course animated by Studio Ghibli.

This exciting potential project arrives on the heels of a huge controversy surrounding the recently appointed Studio Ghibli president Suzuki Toshio. If allegations are to be believed, the studio co-founder has misappropriated company funds and resources for his girlfriend Kanyada since 2014. Studio Ghibli has not commented on the rumor.
