Jodie, the animated feature spin-off of the cult classic animated series Daria, has been dropped by MTVE Studios, according to Deadline. The film, which began life as a series and had a complete voice cast attached, had been in development since 2020.
“Jodie will not be moving forward at MTVE Studios,” said an MTVE Studios spokesperson. “We have loved working with Tracee, Grace and the whole team on creating a film that is full of joy and genre-bending fun with an inclusive, diverse, and incredible cast. We are fully supportive of them finding a home elsewhere and look forward to partnering with them in the future.”
The film follows Jodie Landon as she leaves college, moves to a gentrifying city, and begins a job at Firstfinity, a mysterious Google-like tech company. A satire of workplace culture, Gen Z struggles, tech, and social media, it aimed to highlight the trials and tribulations of that first post-college job for a new generation.
The all-star cast boasts Tracee Ellis Ross (Black-ish) as Jodie; Pamela Adlon (Better Things); Cole Escola (Search Party); Jojo T. Gibbs (Twenties); William Jackson Harper (Love Life); Zosia Mamet (The Flight Attendant); Alex Moffat (Saturday Night Live); Dermot Mulroney (Hanna); Arden Myrin (Insatiable); Kal Penn (Designated Survivor); Kofi Siriboe (Queen Sugar); Dulcé Sloan (The Daily Show with Trevor Noah); and Heléne Yorke (The Other Two).
