Lionsgate has begun to fill out the cast of THE HUNGER GAMES. Variety reports that Elizabeth Banks is in discussions to play unreliable bureaucrat Effie Trinket. Additionally, Amandla Stenberg (upcoming COLOMBIANA) and Dayo Okeniyi (upcoming SLEW HAMPSHIRE) have been cast as Rue and Thresh, the death match contestants from District 11, respectively. The cast already includes Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth.
Based on Suzanne Collins' novel, the story is set in a future where each district of a divided U.S. sends two young competitors into a death match, which is televised.
Gary Ross will direct from a script by Billy Ray. Color Force's Nina Jacobson is producing.
THE HUNGER GAMES is set for release on March 23, 2012.
