Broadcaster CBBC in England debuted NELLY NUT on Monday, March 3, 2003, the children's channel's first totally live interactive animated on-screen character, which hosts a weekday 7-9:00 am breakfast show. Nelly Nut is a nine-year-old bundle of energy, smart, sassy and strong-minded who never leaves her trusty teddy bear friend, Miss Bunny, far behind. A remarkable number of different camera angles, associated characters and complex graphics can be achieved thanks to the technology and software of tv-animation in Denmark, that put NELLY at the forefront in a new generation of live interactive cartoon characters according to the broadcaster. CBBC viewers can call into the program, chat to Nelly and her friends, and play games live on air using a pushbutton phone. Viewers may also catch up on all the news with Nelly and her friends, take a look at what's going on in Nelly's house, play games and send emails online. Founded in Copenhagen in 1999, animation studio and interactive design house tv-animation developed its Cartoon Broadcast Software (CBS) to allow broadcasters to easily produce and customize interactive shows. NELLY NUT has appeared on Teletoon in France, TV2 in Denmark, ZDF in Germany, TVI in Portugal, as well as Fox Kids in Israel.
