The 6th annual Forum Blanc has wrapped in the Grand-Bornand ski village in the Haute-Savoie region of France, following two-and-a-half days of panels, presentations and workshops surrounding the development of multi-platform Transmedia projects.
Running January 14-16, Forum Blanc is open to executives, studio heads, production managers, project heads, writers, developers, content and marketing managers, and legal managers throughout the animation, video game, broadcasting, interactive and mobile industries. This year’s edition had 191 participants, including 16 percent from abroad; 25 speakers and moderators; and 17 sessions, including eight case study presentations on Transmedia projects already in the wild. Highlights included a keynote presentation given by independent transmedia architect Michel Reilhac, along with panel discussions on topics ranging from Digital Distribution and Content Enrichment to Copyright Law and Data Mining.
Reilhac’s keynote presentation, entitled “Interactive Storytelling, After the Excitation: Where is the Urge? Where is the Money?” examined the potential of interactive storytelling in the European marketplace. “Transmedia is not just a fad but a profound change that is destined to expand,” Reilhac said during his talk. “In fact, it's a similar situation to when the Internet bubble burst in 2000: after the initial enthusiasm and wild challenges came a period of deception and today, a thriving economy.”
The former Head of Film Acquisitions at Arte France and Executive Director of Arte France Cinema is betting that this will be the same for transmedia, even if projects are taking a while to find French producers and broadcasters, compared to the likes of U.S. companies such as Amazon and Netflix who are very interested in these new projects.
