Apple TV+ has shared with AWN and VFXWorld an exclusive behind-the-scenes featurette with Jon Favreau, Tim Walker, and Mike Gunton talking about how the VFX artists at leading visual effects studio MPC and scientists - especially Dr. Darren Naish, consulting paleontologist - worked together to meld science and art to bring Prehistoric Planet Season 2 to life, filled with new dinosaurs, new habitats and scientific discoveries .
The new season of the series, from Favreau and the famed BBC Studios Natural History Unit, is now streaming on Apple TV+. The show imagines what life was like when dinosaurs roamed the Earth during the Late Cretaceous period, 66 million years ago. MPC digitally resurrects and inserts the extinct creatures into footage captured by the BBC’s Natural History Unit.
Favreau and Gunton executive produce, with Walker serving as producer. Elliot Newman serves as MPC's VFX supervisor on the project. Sir David Attenborough narrates with an original score by Hans Zimmer, Anže Rozman, and Kara Talve for Bleeding Fingers Music.

Along with the new season of the series, Apple TV+ just debuted a new companion podcast called “Prehistoric Planet: The Official Podcast.'' Each week, Gunton dives into the art and science that brought this landmark series to life. The first episode of the podcast, released on May 8, featured an exclusive, in-depth interview with Favreau. Subsequent episodes of the four-part audio series are available every Monday through May 29. Other special guests will include expert paleontologists, animators, and more, as they reveal the science and technology used to bring the magnificent habitats - and the creatures who roamed them - to life.
