DreamWorks Pictures' new CG animated feature "Shrek" will be projected digitally in eleven theatres in the U.S. and Canada. This marks the first time a DreamWorks film will be shown in the digital format. In making the announcement, DreamWorks head of distribution Jim Tharp stated, SHREK represents the state-of-the-art in computer animation, so it is only fitting that it be the first DreamWorks film to be seen in this state-of-the-art format. Furthermore, a computer animated film lends itself more perfectly to digital projection than any live-action feature, as it requires no conversion from the computer to film or vice-versa; it is a digital presentation of a digital product." The eleven locations slated to show SHREK digitally are: the Loews E-Walk in New York, New York; the AMC Van Ness 14 in San Francisco, California; the Edwards Spectrum 21 in Irvine, California; the AMC Media Center North in Burbank, California; the Harkins Arrowhead Fountains 18 in Peoria, Arizona; the Cinemark 24 in Valley View, Ohio; the AMC S. Barrington 30 in South Barrington, Illinois; the AMC Pleasure Island 24 in Lake Buena Vista, Florida; the Cinemark Legacy 24 in Plano, Texas; the Famous Players Paramount 13 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada; and the Famous Players Silver City 18 in Riverport, British Columbia, Canada. SHREK will be projected digitally on one screen only, and will be projected in traditional 35mm film on other screens in the multiplex. Local listings will indicate which showings will be in the digital format. SHREK stars the voices of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and John Lithgow. Based on the children's book by William Steig, SHREK was directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson from a screenplay by Ted Elliott & Terry Rossio and Joe Stillman and Roger S.H. Schulman.
