Disney’s Live-Action ‘Snow White’ Delayed to 2025

The classic (and first) Disney film about a sweet princess with skin as white as snow will now premiere March 21, 2025 after feature film release slate shifts due to the continuing SAG-AFTRA strike.

Disney has announced the release of its live-action adaptation of Snow White will be delayed by nearly a year, from March 22, 2024 to March 21, 2025. The news comes in tandem with a first look at the film, featuring Rachel Zegler as Snow surrounded by seven fully CG dwarves. It was previously rumored the film would feature a motley crew of decidedly non-dwarves after Peter Dinklage commented about the “backward” use of the stereotype in modern cinema.

The studio’s slate shift, caused by the continuing SAG-AFTRA strike, also affected the Pixar science-fiction film Elio, which will now premiere on June 12, 2025, instead of March 1, 2024. The dark drama Magazine Dreams, starring Jonathan Majors, has been wiped off the calendar completely.

The classic (and first) Disney film about a sweet princess with skin as white as snow also stars Gal Gadot as The Evil Queen; Ansu Kabia as the Huntsman; and Andrew Burnap as Jonathan.

The film is directed by Marc Webb (The Amazing Spider-Man, 500 Days of Summer) from a script by Greta Gerwig (Barbie) and Erin Cressida Wilson (Secretary). Marc Platt produces with Russell Allen, while Callum McDougall executive produces. The VFX are being created by Clear Angle Studios, Day for Nite, Framestore, MPC, Technicolor LA, and Walt Disney Studios, with Max Wood acting as visual effects supervisor.

Snow White will now premiere in theaters on March 21, 2025, barring further changes.
