The upcoming holiday episode, streaming globally on Christmas day, introduces Ncuti Gatwa as the newest Doctor Who and Millie Gibson as the Doctor’s newest companion.
Disney Branded Television and the BBC are making good on their promise to bring the fan-favorite series Doctor Who to a global audience, having rolled out three Doctor Who Specials beginning last month and now streaming Disney+. And now, the streamer has shared a teaser for the series’ Christmas special, “The Church on Ruby Road,” ahead of its December 25 premiere (available at 9:55 a.m. PT / 12:55 p.m. PT).
To celebrate the premiere, the newest Doctor Who, Ncuti Gatwa, and the Doctor’s newest companion, Millie Gibson, recently pushed the button to light the London Eye landmark in the colors of the iconic “Doctor Who” Time Vortex.
The special begins with a long-ago story: a baby abandoned in the snow on Christmas Eve. Now, Ruby Sunday meets the Doctor, stolen babies, goblins, and perhaps the secret of her birth.
Joining Gatwa and Gibson in the cast are Davina McCall (herself), Michelle Greenidge (Carla Sunday), Angela Wynter (Cherry Sunday), and Anita Dobson (Mrs. Flood).
Doctor Who, the longest-running action-adventure television series in the world, returns under the creative vision of longtime showrunner Russell T. Davies, who also serves as a writer and executive producer. Additional executive producers include Phil Collinson, Joel Collins, Julie Gardner, and Jane Tranter. The 60th-anniversary specials are written by Davies and directed by Rachel Talalay, Tom Kingsley, and Chanya Button, respectively. BBC Studios is handling global distribution.
The Doctor Who 60th Anniversary Specials "The Star Beast," "Wild Blue Yonder," and "The Giggle" are now streaming on Disney+. New episodes will stream globally on Disney+ (outside of the UK and Ireland).
Doctor Who is produced by Bad Wolf and BBC Studios.
