Call for Entries: India’s Waves Originals Animation Filmmaker Competition

The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and Dancing Atoms Animation Studios have partnered on a unique new animation filmmaker competition; anyone of Indian origin can submit a project idea for a chance at masterclasses, mentorships, prizes and to pitch to industry leaders at Waves 2025.

You only need an idea to submit! Waves Originals, a nationwide search for India's next storytellers, is now accepting submissions from both amateurs and professionals. The Animation Filmmaker Competition is a groundbreaking initiative created in partnership with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (I&B) and Dancing Atoms Animation Studios.

Selected participants journey through masterclasses and mentorships to polish their ideas, culminating in a final pitch session at The World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) in New Delhi in February 2025. Finalists will present their polished film concepts and pitch to industry leaders for a chance to win the coveted title and launch their ideas into films.

The winning projects also get cash prizes of up to ₹5 lakhs and travel to Waves 2025.

Who can enter?

  • Anyone of Indian origin is eligible.
  • No age restrictions, minors need approval of parents/guardians.
  • Students, Amateurs, and Professionals
  • Individuals, teams, or company groups/individuals

The competition unfolds in stages, designed to nurture and elevate the most promising ideas.

  • Submissions Open: September 10 - 15, 2024
  • Mentorship Phase 1: December 2024
  • Selection Round One: January 2025
  • Mentorship Phase 2: January 2025
  • Jury Pitches & Selection Round Two: January 2025
  • Final Selection: February 2025

The World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (Waves) takes place in New Delhi February 5 – 9, 2025.
