Box Office Report: ‘Act of Valor’ Gets SEAL of Approval

Starring a group of active-duty Navy SEALs, Relativity Media’s Act of Valor secured first place at the box office this weekend, bringing in $24.7 million.

Tyler Perry's Good Deeds, from Lionsgate, opened in second place with an estimated $16 million.

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, from New Line and Warner Bros., made an estimated $13.5 million to claim third place ahead of Safe House and The Vow, with a total of $76.7 million.

In fourth place, Universal’s Safe House, Starring Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds, earned an estimated $11.4 million in its third weekend, bringing its total to $98.1 million.

At fifth place, this Saturday The Vow became the first Sony/Screen Gems movie to ever pass $100 million. It's also the first 2012 movie to reach that mark, and through the film’s 17-day run in theaters, the Channing Tatum-Rachel McAdams romance has made a massive $103 million.

Sony’s Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance brought in an estimated $8.8 million in its second weekend in theaters, with a total of $37.8 million.

The Secret World of Arrietty made an estimated $4.5 million in its second weekend. With a total of $14.7 million, it's just a few days away from passing Ponyo ($15.1 million) to become the highest-grossing Studio Ghibli title ever in the U.S.
